Welcome to the New Jersey Library Association’s 2004 Conference. I chose Service @ Your Library for this year’s theme to remind us that with all of the technology that brings us so much information, it is still all about working with our patrons - to meet their needs and introduce them to the wonderful world of libraries. Let’s make them want to come back time after time. Remember, if we treat them with courtesy and respect, they will tell others what a great and welcoming place a library is.

My personal thanks to Heidi Cramer, Peggy Cadigan and Nancy O’Grady and their Committee for planning an exciting professional development experience. They have lined up an impressive list of speakers and our committees, sections and roundtables have planned for months to bring you quality programs. When you see a name badge with a star on it you are looking at an NJLA member who actively participated in the work of the Association this past year. Thank them for making your association more vibrant and active.

Take this opportunity to network with your colleagues, make new acquaintances, honor those who have made great contributions in the library field, and learn something new (or a new way to do the same old thing!). Visit the vendors. If you are not purchasing their product at this time they still want to meet you. So say hello and thank them for supporting NJLA by their presence.

Enjoy the Conference and when you return to your libraries share what you experienced with your co-workers and trustees.
