The Brand and the Bucks: The Super Librarian Online Store

  • Abstract: With more than 25 Unique Items consisting of Shirts, Ornaments, Cards, Mugs, Tote Bags the Super Librarian Online Store, available from http://www.superlibrarian.org , has sold more than 300 items to individuals in 26 States, Canada, the Virgin Islands and Ireland earning over $500 to help support the New Jersey Statewide Marketing Campaign and to increase the Super Librarian's Brand Identity.   • Abstract:The vast number of electronic resources available to users in most academic libraries have provided users with access to a wealth of information, but have also made finding full-text copies of articles a daunting task. During the summer of 2004, Monmouth University implemented Serial Solutions' Article Linker, an OpenURL link resolver, to facilitate user access to full-text journals articles in any of the Library's databases. This poster session will discuss:
    * service introduction to users
    * user response
    * customizing service with a "GET ARTICLE" icon
    * examples of implementation in databases
    * customizing interface screen, including creating a link for ILL requests
    * technical issues faced in implementing a service that is not completely seamless among aggregators.

Webliographies: Leaping 'Beyond Google' in a Single Bound
Presenter: Caroline Geck, Craig Anderson, and Chrisler Pitts, Kean University Library.

  • Abstract: The poster session will cover the advantages of curriculum focused webliographies (web based curriculum resources). In contrast to Google and other search engines, these library sponsored webliographies will increase the likelihood of patrons identifying relevant, free online resources quickly and efficiently.

Jersey City: Past and Present Website Project

  • Abstract: The poster session will highlight the features of an online encyclopedia-styled resource focusing on the local history of Jersey City, NJ. The web site is a resource for New Jersey teachers and students and all those with an interest in local and state history. It may be used in the teaching of the history of New Jersey and to bring a history of the community into classrooms via the Internet. The topical entries describe places, events and persons significant to Jersey City. Each entry is illustrated with images "past and present," where appropriate, and many entries are supplemented with other visuals such as maps. The entries are linked to a chronology, providing an overview of the more than 350-year history of Jersey City. The project was partially funded by a grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission. On the Right Track to Providing Quality Consumer Health Information to Your Library Users

  • Abstract: The Consumer Health Committee of the Health Sciences Library Association of New Jersey (HSLANJ) recently posted a survey on listservs of the four New Jersey regional library cooperatives. The purpose of the survey was to learn about the provision of consumer health information in public libraries and the level of interest on the part of public librarians in continuing education opportunities in the area of consumer health. Over 250 responses were received. The results of the survey and the plans of the HSLANJ Consumer Health Committee developed from those results will be presented in this poster session.
