Reporting to the Associate State Librarian for Library Development, the person in this position will also be expected to maintain regular communication with the Director of the State Library’s Information Technology Department. The person in this position will be expected to make site visits to libraries for initial technology consultations regarding the Jersey Connect statewide technology initiative to determine their needs; reports and recommendations regarding these visits will be made on a regular basis to the Directors of both the Library Development Bureau and the Information Technology Department. Responsible for all technology-related presentations on behalf of the State Library at meetings and conferences both statewide and nationally. Required to represent the State Library on technology-related committees and report back to the Bureau as needed. Coordinates programs and initiatives focusing on access to the Internet in public libraries, including state library supported e-mail and Internet accounts for public libraries, and serves as state E-Rate Coordinator. Work with librarians on appropriate technologies to purchase for specific tasks and provide training in such. Assist libraries with technology planning and approve technology plans for the e-rate process.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year institution and at least five years recent experience working in the field of information technology in a library environment, OR Master’s degree in library and information science and eligible for New Jersey Professional Librarian Certification and at least five years recent experience working in the field of information technology in a library environment
Valid NJ driver’s license for travel around the state

Desirable Qualifications:
Good working knowledge of networking, application development principles, IT services and trends.
Experience and knowledge of the issues facing libraries in regards to information technology

CATALOGING/METADATA LIBRARIAN, THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY
Description: The College of New Jersey is currently seeking candidates to fill a 12-month, tenure-track position at TCNJ Library.

Responsibilities: Catalog library materials in all formats and languages. Perform authority work and maintain authority files. Create metadata using both traditional and emerging metadata schema. Collaborate and provide significant guidance on the creation and development of library digital projects. Engage in scholarly and service activities expected of tenure-track librarians.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Cataloging/Metadata: Perform original and complex copy cataloging in all formats and languages. Perform catalog maintenance; perform authority work and maintain the library's online authority files. Establish name authority records following NACO standards. Working under the direction of the Head of Cataloging, facilitate departmental work flow, assist in developing cataloging policies and procedures, and participate in special projects as assigned. Serve as a resource person on complex cataloging and metadata issues.

Digital Projects: Become involved in ongoing projects such as the conversion of print Archives finding aids to Encoded Archival Description. Provide significant guidance in the development of new digital projects, and participate in creating and managing metadata for The Colleges future digital assets, including those that are part of intended institutional digital initiatives such as the creation of an institutional repository.

Reference: Provide limited general reference service and research assistance in collaboration with the public services librarians. May take on departmental liaison duties and provide subject-specific user education to students and faculty, depending upon applicants interests and experience.

Additional Responsibilities: Provide some general information literacy instruction. Serve on Library and institutional committees. Participate in professional organizations; contribute to research, scholarly, and professional publications and conferences; carry out other activities required to attain tenure.

Qualifications: Requirements: ALA-accredited Masters degree. Knowledge of current cataloging standards, including AACR, LCSH, LC classification, MARC 21, and OCLC. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Initiative, flexibility and a strong service orientation are essential.

Preferred: Cataloging experience in an academic library. Experience with authority control services. Familiarity with NACO. Familiarity with DDC. Knowledge of emerging metadata schema. Awareness and understanding of digital collection management and digital preservation strategies. General knowledge of reference and collection development. Knowledge of integrated library systems, preferably Voyager. An additional graduate degree is highly desirable. Knowledge of one or more Western European languages.

CHILDREN’S LIBRARIAN-FULL TIME, TEANECK PUBLIC LIBRARY
Teaneck, NJ Public Library, www.teaneck.org, has an opening for an energetic children’s librarian who can contribute fully to a youth services team serving a culturally diverse community of 39,000 in Bergen County. Candidates should have a strong working knowledge of children’s and young adult literature as well as experience with children’s programming. The Bloomfield College Library is looking for a creative and energetic librarian to provide reference services and to teach Information Literacy. The librarian will work closely with students and faculty members and will coordinate

ASSOCIATE STATE LIBRARIAN, NJ LIBRARY FOR THE BLIND AND HANDICAPPED
The NJ State Library has an opening for an Associate State Librarian for the NJ Library for the Blind and Handicapped. Reporting to the State Librarian, this position manages the staff and services of the state’s public library for individuals with print disabilities. The Associate State Librarian oversees all areas of the program operation including, but not limited to, providing Braille, talking books, large print, and radio reading services to eligible individuals, support services to Deaf and hard of hearing communities and the public libraries that serve them, building the multi-media collection, working with and continuing to develop relationships with other state agencies serving the disabled.

The incumbent will participate in the National Library Service, Library of Congress network, working cooperatively with them, and oversee the marketing and publicizing of the service throughout the state. The Roxbury Public Library is seeking to fill this full-time (35 hour/week) position, job title Supervising Librarian (grade 22). Application review begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

PRINCIPAL LIBRARIAN, YOUTH SERVICES, MERCER COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM
Seeking a dynamic and seasoned professional to plan and provide programming for youth and families, such as story time sessions, crafts, and other special events, including the summer reading program. Other examples of duties include, but are not limited to: providing reading guidance and reference services; coordinating selection of materials for the youth services department; preparing bibliographies and displays, providing publicity, visiting local schools and other community events to present programs and book talks and serving as a host for school visits. This person serves as part of the branch management team in daily operations, system-wide planning and goal-setting activities, departmental budget requests, performance evaluation, training and scheduling. The position is also responsible for supervising branch youth staff and volunteers; and preparing statistical, service, and development reports.

Requirements are a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution with a special emphasis on youth services, and NJ Professional Librarian Certification and at least two years of professional librarian experience, working in the field of youth services. Position requires flexibility in working some evening and weekend hours and a 35 hour work week. The County of Mercer adheres to a strict residency requirement. Residents of Mercer County will be given first priority.

Qualified applicant must have a wide knowledge of children’s and young adult books, authors, and reference sources; experience in collection development for youth; experience working with children; innovative thinking; a working knowledge of technology and the ability to effectively use computer resources; effective written and oral communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills. Applicants are expected to provide three references if selected for interview.

SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION: There will be no written or oral test for this examination. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will receive a rating based on an evaluation of their training and experience against the background of the duties of the position.

You are, therefore, asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position.

In you SUMMARY OF TRAINING include all college course work, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended. You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance. Also, include a copy of your professional license or documentation indicating eligibility for licensor. Specify the date that your license was first issued.

In your SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each. DISTINGUISHED FEATURES: The Director of Library services performs professional, managerial, and administrative work of a highly responsible nature in the direction and coordination of the activities and facilities of the library program. The position requires a person with considerable independent judgement, discretion, and initiative. The library director develops library collections, plans and implements services and activities to meet present and anticipated community needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Masters Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution and a minimum of five (5) years of decision making experience in a public, academic or business library.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Applicant must be eligible for a New York State Public Librarian’s Professional certificate and be in possession of certificate within three (3) months after appointment.

ADULT REFERENCE LIBRARIAN, SOMERSET COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM
Duties include:
- Providing reference and reader’s advisory services to adults
- Participating in planning, promoting and implementing library programs that encourage library usage and reading, including a book discussion group
- Participating in the selection, maintenance, and weeding of library materials in an assigned subject area(s) according to collection development budget allocations and policies
- Training staff and/or public on electronic resources
- Working on special projects as assigned by Department Head and/or Branch Director
Requirements:

NJ Librarian’s certificate required; MLS from an ALA accredited program desirable; reference services-related course work or exposure; ability to implement library services in an automated environment; ability to respond to or handle emergency situations effectively as the in-charge person or in cooperation with the in-charge person; ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form; ability to work effectively as a team member; ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines; experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, or equivalent software; ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public even when under stress.
