Call to Order: 1:20 pm

Minutes: Minutes of the February 14 meeting were passed with corrections.

 

President’s Report – Vibiana Bowman

Videoconferencing – Vibiana asked Fran to write a thank you letter to Marianne Gaunt, University Librarian for her support with Rutgers University Library facilities and equipment for executive board meetings.  Thanks will also be extended to Gary Golden, Director, Camden; Lynn Mullins, Director, Newark; and Ryoko Toyama, Director, New Brunswick. In addition technical assistance from John Gibson, Camden; Bill Majors, Newark; and Chad Mills, New Brunswick will be acknowledged.  

NJLA Annual Spring Conference –  Chapter programs and the luncheon will be held on Tuesday, April 1.  Laura Cohen, the luncheon speaker will be offered a room for the previous evening and her lunch will be provided at no charge.  She will receive an honorarium, probably a bookstore gift certificate.  All librarians receiving awards will not have to pay for their lunches. This includes the Distinguished Service Award to Joan Getaz, and the Research Award Winner and the Technology Innovation Award Winner.  All New Jersey librarians including those who are presenters and awardees must register for the conference.

ALA Diversity Research Grant – Vib spoke to Carol and Nicole about the possibility of the chapter exploring applying for this grant.  It was determined that the grant is for research on diversity. 

End of Year Report to ACRL –Vib is gathering information to submit to ACRL national for the chapter’s end of year report.   Please send her information you would like included in the report. 

“What We’ve Done” -  Vib is gathering information to submit to ACRL National about chapter initiatives.  We hope that our work will be highlighted at the Chapter’s Council Meeting at ALA National in Toronto in June.

NJLA Update – Mary Mallery 

The NJLA Executive  Board met on February 25th at the Hamilton Public

Library. Leah Wagner from the NJLA Publications Subcommittee submitted a

proposal to redesign the NJLA Newsletter as a quarterly publication with

advertisements.  This was approved.  There will be an RFQ issued for an

NJLA Newsletter Production Manager to oversee the redesign and

newsletter publication. Also, Leah announced there will be a meeting of

the Publications Subcommittee with NJLA Section presidents to discuss

section Web designs, listservs and policies.  The next meeting of the

NJLA Exec. Board will be March 18th at the Ocean County Library in

Jackson.

Response to Middle States “Characteristics of Excellence” –  Luis Rodriguez

Several chapter members will be meeting to draft a document addressing the value and importance of academic libraries to colleges and universities.

 

Committee Reports –

Newsletter – Nicole Cooke

The Spring Newsletter is ready and should be mailed next week. 

Research – Joanne Zangara

The committee has selected the award winner. The Research Award winner and four other presenters will give presentations on their work during the Research Forum at the NJLA Conference. The committee has a proposal that a chapter sponsored research award be named in honor of Norma Yueh.  A suggestion was made to ask the person proposing it to submit a written proposal to the executive board before the May meeting and it would be discussed at the May meeting.

User Education – Robert Lackie

Preparations have been finalized for the E-Classroom Workshop to be held on May 21 at the Wanaque Campus of Passaic County Community College.  A flyer will be prepared and announcements will be posted on various listservs.

Job Shadowing – Luis Rodriguez

Information for the spring has been sent to Rutgers, Pratt and Drexel.

Legislative Issues – Luis Rodriguez

Luis has completed a web page Resources on Legislative Issues That Affect Libraries.  It can be found at http://library.montclair.edu/Rodriguez/legislationsources.html

Old Business – Jim Marcum, Fairleigh Dickinson University Librarian is interested in co-sponsoring the Academic Librarian Symposium with the chapter in May 2004.  We could use the papers submitted for the Visions 2012 Research Symposium.
