Title:"Be A Buddy: How One Library Became a Partner in the Community"

Abstract: Piscataway Public Library has partnered with a local 4-5 grade school and the town’s Senior Citizen Center for the past two years in the Senior Reading Buddies Program – an innovative program that pairs students with senior citizen buddies who mentor the children in reading. This poster session will show how this school project led to the establishment of the Library as a full partner in the program. It will illustrate how Children’s Librarians collaborate to provide age appropriate and reading level appropriate resources of reading materials for the students, plan programs that encourage reading and lead students to engage in other library resources as needed.
