Abstract: The poster session will highlight the features of an online encyclopedia-styled resource focusing on the local history of Jersey City, NJ. The web site is a resource for New Jersey teachers and students and all those with an interest in local and state history. It may be used in the teaching of the history of New Jersey and to bring a history of the community into classrooms via the Internet.
The topical entries describe places, events and persons significant to Jersey City. Each entry is illustrated with images "past and present," where appropriate, and many entries are supplemented with other visuals such as maps. The entries are linked to a chronology, providing an overview of the more than 350-year history of Jersey City. The project was partially funded by a grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission.
