President’s Report—Marc Meola
NJLA Liaison—Mary Mallery (for Nancy Madacsi)
Mary attended the Oct. 18 NJLA Executive Board meeting at the NJ Library for the Blind and Handicapped in Trenton. NJLA has appointed a committee to look into online balloting for NJLA elections, possibly beginning with the 2006 ballot. NJLA is engaged in strategic planning and will be putting together focus groups involving members from the different sections. Pat Tumulty will be contacting Marc with details on when and how many members should attend. We can use this as an opportunity to bring our issues to the forefront. NJLA is still very much public-library oriented, and we need to have a stronger college/university presence. The next Executive Board meeting will be in Atlantic City on Nov. 15, during the annual meeting of the League of Municipalities. The fall business meeting will be held Nov. 30 at Old Bridge Public Library; Marc will attend for our section.
User Education—Karen Topham
The recent program on plagiarism held at Brookdale Community Collge on Oct. 21 was very successful. There were about 40 attendees, and the initial feedback has been very positive. The committee will be meeting Nov. 11 to review the evaluations. Vib Bowman and several other committee members have submitted a proposal for a breakout session at the VALE conference.
Newsletter—Nicole Cooke
The fall newsletter was distributed in PDF format via our two listservs, and there have been several positive comments. Work on the spring issue will commence after the VALE conference, with the goal of mailing the issue by late March or early April, so we can include announcements about our upcoming NJLA conference programs. Marc contributed a column on advocacy to the last NJLA newsletter. NJLA would like more contributions from our section for future issues; the next issue will be on funding.
Membership—Christopher Lee
The ACRLNJ listserv is up and running.
Research—Triveni Kuchi (email report)
The committee met Oct. 21 to finalize plans for its conference programs. The committee will again host the Research Forum, and will also offer a program called “All Together How: Collaboration in Research and Publication.”
Nominations—Steve Shapiro (email report)
Penny Page and Ruth Hamann have agreed to run for additional terms as Secretary and Member-at-Large, respectively. Steve is working on the nomination for VP/President-Elect.
Technology—Mary Mallery
The committee has two programs set for the NJLA conference. Eric Lease Morgan will be co-sponsored by the Information Technology Section. Grace Agnew will be speaking on institutional repositories and the use of Fedora for the NJ Digital Highway. Mary will submit a proposal for a third program featuring David Lindahl from University of Rochester speaking on web usability studies. If accepted, this program will probably be scheduled for Tuesday. The presentations by the nominees for the Technology Innovation Award will be held at the Rutgers Scholarly Communications Center on March 17.
Job Shadowing—Luis Rodriguez (email report)
Luis sent email information on job shadowing to the following MLS programs:

Blackboard and WebCT are merging, and they will involve the use of the Copyright Clearance Center for obtaining permissions to use articles. The CCC is offering “webinars” on Nov. 8 and 10 to show how this will work. The programs are free, but participants must register. Mary will send the information to our listservs.
Next meeting: Feb. 3, 2006.

Penny B. Page
