Following the retirement of a long-time employee, the Rahway Public Library is searching for a Reference Librarian to solidify the library’s place as a vibrant and vital member of our community. Our ideal candidate possesses strong interpersonal skills, a knack for connecting with patrons, and a willingness to work with a diverse population. Interest in in-person and virtual library programming, targeted marketing, and content selection in an urban setting is highly desired. The ability to leverage social and traditional media is preferred. Commitment to customer service, the ability to work harmoniously with our staff, and fluency with library technologies is required.

Just a thirty-minute train ride from New York, the City of Rahway is an up-and-coming municipality with a vibrant art scene, upscale restaurants, a community theater, and a newly redeveloped downtown. The library is located in a beautiful private/public facility just a block from the NJ Transit train station. At the Rahway Public Library, we have a do-it-yourself spirit. Our staff is highly motivated and committed to open-source technologies, high-impact programming, and the maintenance of an outstanding collection. This is a permanent, full-time position. The position offers generous benefits including enrollment in the state pension system, dental, medical, and vision coverage. Employees also enjoy vacation, sick, and personal time as well as both municipal and federal holidays. The position is provisional for 90 days. As per civil service guidelines, this title requires an MLS from an accredited university and a valid NJ State Librarian Certificate. The Rahway Public Library abides by the New Jersey First Act. NJ residency is required within one year of appointment. 2021 salary is $54, 953 to be increased with the contractual union raise upon appointment.
