The Haworth Municipal Library is accepting applications for the position of Library Director.

Before getting into the nuts and bolts of the job, there are some things you should know about the Haworth Municipal Library: The building is beautiful, with large, sunny windows in the Children’s Room and plenty of room for story time, arts and crafts projects, and programs like “Read to a Dog”—even if the dog is a giant Newfoundland. The same 2015 addition and renovation that gave the library the Children’s Room also created a Community Room with a large screen monitor for all types of gatherings. We are one of the few libraries in Bergen County with a dedicated Local History Room, and there’s a lovely “Quiet Room” for a patron to sit in a comfy chair or groups to meet. Haworth is a small town, population just over 3,300, which means staff members usually have a patron’s account open before they reach the circulation desk. The staff know who is going to like Louise Penny and who might enjoy the latest historical novel by Erik Larson. The staff members work harmoniously as a cohesive team. The library’s role in 2022 is part traditional library and part community center, with regular meetings of the Haworth Woman’s Club, the Boy Scouts, and the Library book group, among others. Bottom line – the Haworth Library is a unique place, and we’re looking for a Director who’ll appreciate it for what it is and who has a vision for what it can become.
