Executive Director (full-time)
The Board of Trustees of the Parkland Community Library is seeking a visionary Executive Director to lead a dynamic community library that serves the Parkland School District: North Whitehall Township, South Whitehall Township, and Upper Macungie Township, with a population of over 60,000. Located in suburban Allentown, PA, the Parkland Community Library has been recently expanded and renovated to meet the needs of our community. Parkland Community Library is funded by the three municipalities of the Parkland School District. Funding is also received from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The library has an annual budget of approximately $1m. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Trustees with full responsibility and authority to carry out the day-to-day operations of the library. In addition to the Executive Director, the staff includes the Finance Manager, Circulation Manager, Youth Services Director, Head of Reference, Head of Technical Services, Head of Adult Services, and supporting staff.
The Parkland Community Library is a member of the Lehigh Carbon Library Cooperative – a cooperative of 11 libraries within Lehigh and Carbon counties.
Minimum Requirements
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution
- A minimum of five (5) years of varied and progressive experience as a public library supervisor and/or administrator
- Managerial skills that include managing staff and overseeing the operations, collections, and programs of the library
- Experience with budget development and management
- Experience with creation and management of library policies
- Knowledge of current and emerging technologies and their application to libraries
- Organizational skills and the ability to effectively respond to current and emerging priorities
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of library functions including personnel, policy, budget, evaluation, materials collections, and facility maintenance
- Select, educate, supervise, mediate, and evaluate employees in accordance with policies
- Work collaboratively with the Board of Trustees on policy execution and recommendations, including strategic planning
- Build positive partnerships with stakeholders, including elected officials, school officials, and civic organizations
- Promote library advocacy and fundraising efforts by meeting with community members, attending community meetings, and joining community organizations
- Promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in the collection, with staff, and community
- Commit to ethical behavior and have the core values of the library profession
- Commit to professional development to stay current with library programming and best practices
- Coordinate library operations to assure compliance with all established legal standards (federal, state, and local)
- Adhere to all regulations, guidelines, and requirements of the Office of Commonwealth Libraries
- Create a Director’s Report monthly for the Board of Trustees and attend monthly board meetings
- Complete the annual state report and other various reports that may be required
- Schedule and conduct monthly staff meetings

Salary and Clearances
This is a full-time position with exempt status. The salary range is $70,000 – $80,000 (commensurate with experience) plus a benefits package. Clearances Required for employment:
