P/T Librarian I, Adult Services, Scotch Plains Public Library

Scotch Plains Public Library is looking for an energetic, creative librarian to join our adult services team. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about working with the public, knowledgeable about current best practices, and eager to function as an integral part of our hardworking and friendly department.

The successful candidate will:

• Provide expert reference, readers advisory, and technology assistance to adults
• Help users locate library materials, in physical and digital formats
• Promote, teach, and troubleshoot the use of the library’s growing collection of online resources and circulating devices
• Participate in planning and presenting public programs
• Create publicity material, including press releases, social media posts, and a weekly email newsletter to keep library users current with library events
• Create and maintain web content on the library website
• Work collaboratively to evaluate new products and services
• Represent the library at community events
• Readily undertake other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

A Master’s degree in Library or Information Science in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey College Master’s Program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College.We will also consider current library and information school graduate school students nearing the completion of their graduate studies, with salary adjusted accordingly. Current students would be hired as Library Associates until they receive their degrees.Experience with SirsiDynix is preferred.

Hours: Monday 5-9pm, Thursday 5-9pm, and alternating Saturdays

Salary: $31.85/hour
