East Brunswick Public Library, a progressive library serving a diverse community in central New Jersey, seeks an innovative, engaging and self-motivated professional to join our Youth Services department. The Teen and Youth Services Librarian will focus on supporting the educational and informational needs of children in grades 6 and up through programming, collection development, community outreach, while also working with other YS librarians to provide these services for children of all ages and their families in the community. This librarian will take the lead in developing and leading programming for teens and tweens, including leading the library’s broad range of teen volunteer programs. This librarian will work with departmental colleagues in collection development, selecting and maintaining materials including books, emerging technology for our EB Create makerspace, and nontraditional lendable items that reflect the diverse range of interests of our community’s teens and tweens. This librarian will embody a community engagement mindset in order to grow relationships between our library, educational institutions, and other community groups to better serve the youth of East Brunswick. Finally, this librarian will also work with the other librarians in the Youth Services department to provide quality programming, readers advisory, and other services to children of all ages and their families, including storytimes, craft activities, and more. Like every member of the department, this librarian will be expected to be a passionate advocate for the information needs of teens, youth, and families and to be inspired to develop creative programming and services for them.

Strong knowledge of current teen and tween literature to assist with collection development and reader’s advisory must be demonstrated. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, flexible, forward thinking, and driven to promote the value and values of the library to our community. This position will involve staffing both the Teen and Youth Services desks and will require regular evening and weekend shifts, consisting of two nights a week and every other Saturday. Participation in professional organizations such as NJLA, PLA, YALSA, and ALA are encouraged and subsidized, in order to bring back innovative ideas in Youth Services to our library. Finally, this candidate will demonstrate a strong enthusiasm for working in a collaborative team environment both with Youth Services and across the library in order to advance the mission of the library.

A teen librarian must have a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school with coursework in Young Adult Literature. Public library experience preferred.SALARY: $52,819
