Full-time position – Youth Services Librarian

The North Bergen Public Library is seeking a full-time Youth Services Librarian to work at our fast-paced, busy Main Branch location.

Responsibilities include answering reference and reader’s advisory questions for children and teens, assisting the Department Head to develop and run children’s and teen programming in conjunction with other librarians, collection development as assigned, organizing and attending regular school visits, marketing programs and databases, assisting the public, supervising children’s room staff, monitoring patron conduct, collaborating with the librarians at our other branches and being an active member of the librarian team, and aiding in the day-to-day running of the library. This librarian may be occasionally called upon to work at any of the three library branches.

Applicant must have an MLS from an ALA-accredited institution and a NJ Professional Librarians Certificate, or be an MLS student currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited program with at least two years of relevant experience.

Requirements include strong technology and social media skills, and excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.

Candidate should have an excellent rapport with children and the capacity to courteously deal with the public. BCCLS experience a plus. Bilingual Spanish-speaking applicants preferred.

Salary minimum for a candidate with an MLS is $62,000, and will scale with experience. Generous benefits and vacation package included. Evenings and weekends on rotation required.
