Librarian 1: Community Outreach. Trenton Free Public Library is seeking an Adult Librarian who will focus on Community Outreach. The ideal candidate will be a resourceful, forward thinking, multi-tasker with strong communication and collaboration skills. Their priority will be engaging with a diverse community through the provision of equitable library services to include development of programming.

Responsibilities:
  • Acts as library representative at meetings and conferences.
  • Composes publicity releases or program announcements for media, newsletters, or other publications.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with community organizations, school groups, library associates and the general public.
  • Assists public and staff in making effective use of library equipment and provides formal training and instruction in the effective use of electronic resources.
  • Designs, organizes and maintains library materials and electronic resources by using appropriate systems of access that are compatible with the needs and styles of learning of the public.
  • Reviews collections to develop or discard/discontinue; assists in the selection and evaluation of resources for delivery in the most appropriate format.
  • Participates in professional associations concerned with improving methods and techniques of information services.
  • May provide instruction and technical expertise to nonprofessional and paraprofessional staff.
  • Exchanges ideas, information, and opinions with supervisors to formulate policies, procedures, programs, etc. to provide high quality services.
  • Mentors newer staff members.
  • Performs Related Duties as Required.

NOTE: Incumbents may be required to complete cross-training in one or more of the following specializations: Youth Services, Reference Services, Technical Services.

REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: A Master's degree in Library or Information Sciences in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey College Master's program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State University.

LICENSE: Appointees may be required to possess a valid certification as a Professional Librarian issued by Thomas Edison State University.

BENEFITS PACKAGE: Salary: $57,244 per year, ($31.45 per hour)Vacation: 20 days per year (accruing @ 1.666 days a month)Sick Days: 15 days per year (accruing @ 8.25 hours a month). Personal Days: 5 days per year (accruing @ 1.25 hours a month)Paid Holidays: 14 per calendar year as per union contract. Medical Coverage: Several Plans from which to choose (cost based on plan choice). Eye Care: Reimbursement @ $100 for single vision and bifocals. Dental Plan: Small monthly fee for coverage dependent upon carrier selection. Work Week: 35 hr., flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Residency: New Jersey Resident.
