(Part Time) Shelving Project Assistant - Multiple Positions

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking Shelving Project Assistants for the New Brunswick Libraries to facilitate a large digitization project. The Google Books Library Project is aimed at scanning and making searchable the collections of several major research libraries, digitizing books cover-to-cover. This position performs work within the Access Services unit and will be responsible for specific projects, and performs circulation desk duties as needed.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Performs scanning of books using document scanning equipment.
  • Selects and prepares materials for shipping for inclusion in project shipping manifests and/or receives and re-shelves returned materials.
  • Checks materials in and out, retrieves, picks, sorts, packs and/or re-shelves library material, shelf reading.
  • Makes sure books are scanned appropriately in accordance with procedure.
  • Lifts and arranges books, materials, boxes, and pushes and arrange s-carts and other library furniture or equipment in the execution of preparing books for shipment.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
