Job Title: Library Security Guard - Garfield Public Library

The Garfield Public Library seeks a library security guard to help keep the library a safe, secure and welcoming place for people to work, study and enjoy.

Duties include but not limited to: 

  • Enforcing rules: Ensuring that patrons, staff, and contractors follow the library's rules to prevent theft, damage, and injury 
  • Patrolling: Regularly checking the building and grounds for unauthorized activity or suspicious conditions. Periodically tours building and grounds, examining doors and windows to determine whether they are secure and not tampered with.
  • Security presence: Providing security at the front entrance and at special events 
  • Documenting: Writing reports on incidents and unusual conditions, and providing details to the library director
  • Responding to incidents: Confronting unauthorized people, de-escalating situations, and calling for assistance when needed
  • Maintaining security: Ensuring that doors and windows are secure, and reporting any malfunctions in the building's systems 
  • Opening and closing: Opening and closing the library building securely 
  • Reviewing: Regularly reviewing the library building to ensure safety
  • Assisting with policy development: Helping to develop security, operations, and emergency policies and procedures 



Minimum Qualifications:

Good oral skills and ability to deal tactfully and effectively with staff and public

Must act professionally and demonstrate courtesy and respect to all.

Ability to effectively use technology tools including the Internet, email, office applications

Trained in first aid and use of Narcan

Be Helpful to patrons and colleagues

Be Resourceful in solving problems

Be Curious in all aspects of your work

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Security Management is desirable

Experience in Law Enforcement, Military Service, or EMT is desirable.

Schedule:

Saturdays from 9AM to 5 PM

Available for possible evening shifts.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience
