The Summit Free Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, outgoing, and creative Children’s Librarian to be a team-player in a busy Youth Services Department. Position requires the successful candidate to provide reference and readers’ advisory services to patrons, carry responsibility for collection development, and plan and execute programs for birth thru fifth grade and families.

REPRESENTATIVE JOB DUTIES:
  • Provide reference service and reader’s advisory in the Youth Services Department.
  • Collection development and maintenance for Youth Services Department.
  • Promote the library’s collection and resources to children, parents and caregivers.
  • Create engaging programming for birth thru fifth grade and their caregivers, which may include story times for young children, and innovative programs for older children.
  • Build partnerships with preschools, public schools, and community organizations to promote library resources for children and families.
  • Assist patrons with using library equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements: ALA accredited Masters of Library Service and NJ Professional Librarian’s Certificate. Must have an abiding interest in working with children from birth through grade five, and be comfortable working with young adults through age 17 as needed. An existing knowledge of trends in children’s literature is desirable. Knowledge of computers and technology trends. Strong programming skills required including the ability to identify and plan interactive activities for ages 2 and up and their caregivers. STEM knowledge and library trends in science and technology preferred but not required. Spanish speaking a plus. Evenings and weekend hours required. 35.5 hrs/wk
