P-T Youth Services Library Assistant (2 positions), Livingston Public Library, Livingston
The Livingston Public Library serves a culturally diverse community of 27,000+ residents. The Library is seeking two enthusiastic and outgoing individuals to join our team as part-time Library Assistants in our Youth Services department. We seek individuals who will strive to offer our community excellent customer service and must be friendly, professional, and efficient. Excellent communication and computer skills are a must. The successful candidates must be able to perform a wide-range of clerical, paraprofessional tasks, and other support duties. These are part-time positions of approximately 19 hours per week including evening, weekend, and daytime hours.The Livingston Public Library is an award winning library, including the 2015 NJ State Library Multicultural Programming Award and the 2015 ALSC Curiosity Creates Grant.

  • Possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service by being attentive,approachable, kind and helpful to everyone;
  • Ability to assist children, teens, families and patrons during programs and program registration;
  • Inspire a connection to all facets of the library by introducing customers to all we do: programs, collections, resources and much more;
  • Assist with inquiries regarding patron accounts, checking materials in and out, provide basic readers’ advisory, answering phones, and answer basic reference and directional questions;
  • Is a team member who welcomes and accepts input, seeks out advice on how to handle situations and supports team members by keeping them informed and offering help;
  • Assist with basic computer troubleshooting;
  • Assist in library programs as needed; and
    Performs other duties as needed

  • Ability to converse, speaking clearly, concisely, and courteously;
  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and/or oral one-or-two step instructions;
  • Comfortable with public speaking and presenting in front of large groups;
  • Comfortable enforcing behavior guidelines in line with the Library’s policies Computer literacy skill set (Office Suite, Google Suite, email, internet research, social media);
  • Ability to lift, push, pull and carry 25-40 lbs on a routine basis;
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, along with some relevant library work and/or other work experiences are required;
  • Past experience in a library setting a plus.
