JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Circulation, Reference & Instruction Librarian, the part-time Circulation Supervisor is responsible for supervising the library building, equipment and Circulation functions during nights and weekends using established policies, procedures, precedents and guidelines; trains and supervises student workers, assists in processing Course Reserves; and performs related work as required.

 

  • Oversees the library facility during nights and weekends. Ensures the safety of library patrons and equipment.
  • Manages library emergencies and incidents during assigned shifts and coordinates with Public Safety as necessary. Submits written reports about the incidents to library supervisors.
  • Reports building-related problems including leaks, burned out lights and other maintenance problems to library supervisors.
  • Reviews and interprets applicable policies and procedures in performance of Circulation functions.
  • Assists in the processing and inventory management of Course Reserve materials including  books, electronic reserves, DVDs, and faculty-owned items.   
  • Trains, supervises, and evaluates the work of student workers during nights and weekends.
  • Compiles and analyzes daily, monthly, and yearly gate statistics.
  • Maintains records and spreadsheets on statistics and submits reports to supervisors as needed.
  • Assists in approving student time sheets, submitting paper time sheets as needed, and maintaining records.
  • Assists in stacks maintenance including facilitating shelving of library materials, shelf reading, re-shelving, and completing assigned projects.
  • Assists in resolving issues related to overdue materials including searching for outstanding items, verifying that the item is not on the shelf, and communicating with patrons regarding overdue items.
  • Assists patrons in using the online catalog and helping them locate library materials.
  • Guides and instructs student workers, staff and patrons in the proper use of library equipment.
  • Consults with supervisors concerning assignments and on the most unusual problems or policy matters related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Prepares clear, technically sound, accurate and informative reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations.
  • Assists in Interlibrary Loan functions.
  • Performs other related functions as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION:

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree.
  • One year professional library experience, preferably in an academic setting; experience in customer service.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Basic knowledge of the principles and techniques essential to performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to learn, understand, analyze, interpret and apply established library policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships and coordinate with Public Safety and other offices that impact on assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to assign, supervise, and evaluate the work of student workers.
  • Knowledge of library collection and library building.
  • Ability to perform detailed library work and maintain essential records and files.
  • Ability to evaluate difficult situations related to Circulation including clarifying patron complaints, determining the cause of the problem, exploring solutions, and making decisions to resolve the problem.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent user-centered services in an academic library setting.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member with diverse students and faculty, as well as library staff and student workers. 
  • Ability to submit clear, sound, accurate, and comprehensive reports regarding building-related problems and Circulation-related issues to library supervisors.
  • Competence in using technological and electronic equipment and applications used by the library.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library staff and student workers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for performing assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
