Job Title: Library Grant Assistant (Public Information Assistant)

Full-Time/Part-Time: Full-Time

The Office of Public Information is looking for a Library Grant Assistant (Public Information Assistant) to assist with various duties to include helping to research grant opportunities, collect data, put grant applications into proper form, and track and monitor pre- and post- grant materials including written, audio and visual materials and applications.As part of the Office of Public Information, the individual in this position may also be required to develop curriculum and teach workshops on topics such as creative writing, grant-writing,illustration and more.Initially this position will be assigned to the Main Library but may have other duties around the system as needed.

Job Duties:

  • Conduct research related to grant availability based on the library’s profile and service mission.
  • Makes recommendations for alternative sources of funding to the Library Director.
  • Help gather informative grant application materials, particularly the current and proposed programs of the library system as they relate to the grant.
  • Prepares the submission and distribution of grant-related materials and other library publications as needed.
  • Assists in the preparation posters, charts, graphs, exhibits and other visual aid materials.
  • Assist with press outreach and Office of Public Information files and records.
  • May be required to develop curriculum and workshops on creative writing, grant-writing, illustration and more.


Required Experience:

  • One (1) year of experience in work involving writing for a public audience.


Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge of modern public information and advertising techniques and devices.
  • Ability to prepare and assist in preparing information articles and news releases for publication via media of print, radio, and television.
  • Knowledge of the conventions and the form and style required for press releases (print, radio, and television) and for grant application and reporting materials
  • Ability to review and edit written material and to proofread copy.


Preferred Skills:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • College Degree is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Jersey City and/or local government.
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • Curriculum development and teaching experience, particularly witha wide range of audience members
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a non-English language spoken in Jersey City (Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Tagalog) *Please include a writing sample of 1 page or less, in PDF format,that demonstrates your experience in producing copy for publication.
