Adult Services Librarian 1 – F/T Union Township

Union Public Library, serving a diverse middle-class community of more than 56,000 residents in two locations is seeking a reference librarian in their busy Adult Services department. The new Adult Services Librarian will have the opportunity to work with an amazing, collaborative group of dedicated professionals who together work on adult programming, provide reference desk assistance and perform outreach, social media management and promotions of the library and programs. We are seeking a librarian with proven skills to maintain the library’s social media accounts and graphic design ability utilizing software such as Canva or others to create appealing, modern promotional materials, web content and newsletters.

The following list is a sample of the duties required of the position for illustrative purposes and may include other tasks not listed below.

  • Provide accurate, friendly reference service and readers advisory to patrons of all ages utilizing the online catalog, books, reference sources, bibliographies, library databases and the Internet.
  • Provides basic technology assistance for public computers.
  • Create content for and maintain the library’s social media channels to promote services, resources and programs.
  • May serve as liaison with outside community groups and represent the library by promoting literacy, participating in outreach as appropriate.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Attend workshops and training, staying well-informed of trends in libraries.
  • Schedule includes rotating evening and Saturday work.


Qualifications: Must have a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from a library program accredited by ALA or from a New Jersey Master’s program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College.
