Adult Services / Programming Librarian whose responsibilities include but not limited to supervising staff, services, and operations of the Branch Library, developing programming, providing reference services to a diverse community of patrons with different levels of literacy and/or technological abilities, assisting patrons with computer tasks including printing, file attachments, downloads, and basic troubleshooting, and instruct the public on the use of eBooks, downloadable audio, and other technologies.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of library experience, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.


  • Supervises staff, services, and operations of the Union City Public Library Branch and performs the work involved in a variety of library services.
  • Effectively offering assistance in the informational needs of all ages, including computer support, reference, and readers advisory, with an emphasis on exceptional customer service
  • Planning, coordinating, executing, and evaluation programs that meet the interests and needs of adults in the community
  • Selecting and maintaining the adult print and non-print collections, with a focus on popular fiction, media, and electronic content
  • Interacting with community members in ways that aim to better understand the interests and needs of the community, and lead to improved programs and services
  • Representing the library at community events, supporting outreach and special projects.
  • Continuing education to update professional skills via workshops and webinars


  • Master's Degree in Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program
  • NJ Professional Librarian’s Certificate
  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas: management, customer service, providing reference and technology assistance, adult programming, collection development
  • Ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and effectively with library patrons and staff
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable but not required
