Cataloger, Special Collections, Philip Roth Personal Library The Newark Public Library is seeking to hire a cataloger to begin working on processing the incoming Philip Roth Personal Library. The cataloger should be familiar with Innovative’s Sierra cataloging module and should have knowledge of cataloging standards and tools including DDC, LCSH, MARC21, and OCLC Connexion. The primary assignment is to perform original and copy cataloging including descriptive and subject cataloging and the associated authority work for materials in multiple formats in compliance with AACR2, RDA, MARC, LCSH standards and local cataloging policies. The cataloger will be expected to copy and add notes to the bibliographic records regarding marginalia or other unique features of each item.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Add/edit item records in the Library’s online catalog.
  • Perform original cataloging
  • Assist librarian with processing the collection
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: Familiarity with library catalogs, particularly III’s Sierra and tools such as DDC, LCSH, MARC21, and OCLC Connexion

Working conditions: The work week is up to 35 hours. Hours are flexible. Start date: November 2, 2020. Six month term which may be renewed pending the status of the project. $35/hour. Qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview immediately. COVID test required and results must be submitted prior to hiring date.

Physical requirements: Ability to lift 35 pounds, move books, and push and pull book trucks as required. Direct reports Head of Technical Services and Special Collections Librarian
