P-T Head of Circulation, Ramsey Free Public Library, Ramsey

Description of Position:

The Ramsey Free Public Library is seeking a dynamic individual with library circulation experience to serve as the library’s part-time Head of Circulation. This position manages the Circulation department daily tasks as well as special projects and organizes Circulation staff toward those goals. The Ramsey Free Public Library seeks to adopt forward thinking initiatives, services and programs for our patrons. Overall, we are looking for someone who enjoys working with the public, has good organizational and interpersonal skills, and has the ability to learn new tools and techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the Circulation Department staff in coordination with the Library Director - assigns Circulation Department projects, and organizes staff for inter-library loan delivery, public service desk coverage, and other Circulation tasks
  • Manages the master staff schedule and desk schedules for all staff
  • Manages and approves all staff time off requests in consultation with the Library Director. Manage staff time off requests through Time Out software and adjust master and desk schedules accordingly
  • Work with Director and department heads on evaluating library circulation services, organization and tools and plan innovative improvements to library services
  • Answer and address patron inquires, complaints and other issues relating to item circulation, library cards, lost items, and all other circulation related issues
  • Organize all library shelving, shelf reading and weeding projects in coordination with department heads/Director
  • Keep informed of all circulation related procedures and rules from BCCLS, assist with creating and maintain internal circulation policies and procedures, regularly train staff on policies and procedures
  • Monitoring and investigating lost, claims returned items, library card issues, and other circulation related issues
  • Train all new circulation staff on procedures, policies and assign duties
  • Rotation on public service Circulation desk - creating and processing library cards, check-in and check-out of materials, item renewals, lost item processing, answering phones, processing loans, instructing patrons on using library equipment, inter-library loan processing, book drop returns, and other daily Circulation tasks
  • Manage daily interlibrary loan delivery, unpacking, BCCLS notifications and holds
  • Attend continuing education sessions
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Library and Circulation work experience required
  • Supervisory skills required
  • Knowledge of LEAP, Polaris and LIS functions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with patron complaints and resolve issues
  • Good team skills, ability to communicate effectively with staff and work on issues in a congenial atmosphere
  • Good organizational skills, task management and assignment
  • Good technology skills, ability to learn new software and resources, ability to instruct patrons on circulation databases, catalogs and other technology, evaluate new circulation/technology products and their application to patron experience
  • Experience with staff scheduling is highly desirable

Compensation:

Part-time position, 25 hours per week. Rotates into Saturday and evening schedule. Competitive hourly salary, commensurate with experience. Union eligible position. Three month probationary period.
