Description: The Adult Services Librarian is responsible for programming and collection development for adults, and reference and customer service to all ages. The Adult Services Department embraces a team approach to support outreach and special projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively offering assistance to meet the informational needs of users of all ages, by providing reference. readers’ advisory, and computer support.
  • Planning, coordinating, executing, and evaluating programs that meet the interests and needs of adults in the community including, but not limited to, job seekers, makers, and readers.
  • Selecting and maintaining the adult print, nonprint, electronic collections
  • Contributing to developing the library’s local history resources and celebrating the cultural diversity of the Township
  • Strengthening connections with local organizations and representing the library at community events Continuing education to update professional skills and active participation in professional library organizations


Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA accredited program and NJ Professional Librarian’s Certificate. Candidates completing their MLS by June 2021 will be considered for the Information Assistant/Library Associate title until degree and certification are received.
  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas: customer service, providing reference and technology assistance, adult programming, collection development
  • Ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and effectively with library patrons and staff


Schedule: The schedule for this position is 35 hours per week, including a regular evening, and weekend coverage on a rotating basis. Schedule includes time at both Piscataway Library branches.

Compensation: This is a full-time salaried exempt position, with a minimum starting salary of $61,422. (Senior Librarian $66,273) Piscataway Public Library offers generous paid leave, health and dental insurance, PERS/DCRP, and a commitment to staff training and development.
