Union Public Library, serving a diverse middle-class community of more than 56,000 residents in two locations is seeking an experienced Systems and Library Technology Librarian. UPL will soon be undergoing a major renovation to the Main Library. It is an exciting time to be part of this team! Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Systems and Technology Librarian / Library Associate performs professional level work in the implementation, maintenance, support, and enhancement of a range of technologies, software, equipment and systems specific to library operations and public digital and print information resources to ensure continued access to the library’s resources for both internal and external customers. Additionally, incumbent will provide assistance at the Reference Desk, conducts instructional public programs on select topics, and provide one-on-one technology assistance to staff and the public.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Technology / Computer Networking (50%)
  1. Maintain and support staff and public computers, printers and Wi-Fi, software and installations.
  2. Maintaining an up-to-date equipment inventory and replacement schedule of same.
  3. Research and recommend equipment and software purchases. Maintain software licenses and renewals.
  4. Collects data, prepares reports and develops budget requests for technology.
  5. Oversee library wide software installations and configuration and provide training in the same.
  6. Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to library technology.
  • Adult Services (50%)
  1. Provide Reference assistance at busy Reference desk.
  2. Research and report on emerging technologies appropriate for Union Public Library.
  3. Participate in the ongoing assessment and enhancement of existing resources and technologies related to library services and e-resources including OPAC.
  4. Point person for vendors of e-resources and library equipment.
  5. Develop, coordinate, and implement technology training for staff and programming for the public.
  6. Keeps informed of current trends and issues and public libraries. Pursue ongoing professional development.
  7. Other Duties as assigned.
  • MLS from an ALA accredited institution. For Library Associate, a BA/BS is required.
  • At least one year of experience in comparable position.
  • Ability to handle the pressures of timelines and technology problems with patience and perseverance.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently.
