The Gloucester County Library Commission seeks an innovative and visionary leader to fill the position of Library Director. The Director will serve as the administrator of the library and be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing the operation of the library according to state laws, library policies, and the authority delegated by the GC Library Commission.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Administration of the library including the management of all public and technical services, programming, physical plant, library budget, library personnel, and all library operations and systems.
  • Preparation of an annual operating budget. Administration of library funds in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Assisting the Library Commission in development of a strategic plan.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive and productive relationships with elected officials, community organizations, the business and educational communities, and the general public.
  • Promotion of the library through effective communication and marketing initiatives, including, but not limited to, public appearances, press releases and social media.
  • Preparation for and attendance at Library Commission meetings including the preparation of statistical and narrative reports.
  • Preparation of the annual report to the NJ State Library.
  • The successful applicant will have a thorough knowledge of professional library principles, best practices, methods and knowledge of all phases of public library work.
  • Preferred qualifications include sound fiscal management skills; the ability to mentor and inspire a strong, creative staff; knowledge of trends in library technologies; proven success in community engagement and partnership development, and prior experience working in a multi-branch environment.
  • The position requires a Master's degree in Library or Information Sciences from an ALA accredited institution and possession of a valid license as a Professional Librarian in the State of NJ, issued by the Bureau of Teacher Certification, Thomas Edison State University.
The position requires residency in the State of New Jersey. If the successful applicant is not a New Jersey resident, he or she must become a bona fide New Jersey resident within one year. The position requires a minimum of five years of public library experience with at least two years as a supervisor. Compensation: Salary $95,000 - $120,000 per year, commensurate with experience. The Gloucester County Library System offers a competitive benefits package including generous paid leave, medical and dental insurance, and enrollment in the Public Employee Retire System.
