Director, Lincoln Park Public Library, Lincoln Park

The Director of the Lincoln Park Public Library serves as administrator of the library. They will plan, organize and administer the operation of the library according to the policies, rules and authority delegated by the Library Board of Trustees. They will supervise all library personnel.


  • Establishes, formulates, and recommends policies to the Library Board. Implements and reviews library policies, procedures, and practices. Recommends necessary changes and/or updates to the Board.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates professional and support library staff.
  • Negotiates with the Union.
  • Assists the Library Board in developing a long-range plan that promotes and supports the organization’s mission and strategic direction.
  • Prepares annual operating and capital budgets that reflect the library’s mission.
  • Prepares annual reports as required by the New Jersey State Library.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with the Board of Trustees, Township Officials, Friends of the Library, community organizations, and the general public.
  • Prepares and ensures delivery of content for the library’s webpage and social media.
  • Creates content for marketing, public relations, including press releases, and electronic newsletters.
  • Prepares narrative and statistical reports.
  • Purchases all books, e-books, and media for the library.
  • Represents the library at professional meetings, conferences, and seminars.
  • The library will be undergoing an addition/renovation project, which will include working with architects, contractors, and others to complete the project.
  • The library received a grant for the renovation/addition through the Library Construction Bond Act grant so the incumbent will be required to satisfy the paperwork and other information that must be submitted for the grant.
  • Thorough knowledge of Polaris, theories, principles, and techniques of librarianship.
  • Thorough knowledge of library administration and management techniques, including New Jersey Library Laws.
  • Thorough knowledge of the functions and responsibilities of a Library Board of Trustees.
  • Ability to analyze, comprehend, and use current approved public library standards, methods, and techniques. The same ability would apply to library budget systems, performance appraisal, job classification, and compensation.
  • Ability to oversee a basic collection development plan, which includes approved selection methods, classification and cataloging, and related technical administration.
  • An ALA accredited Master’s degree in Library Science.
SALARY: 35 hours/week. Compensation is dependent upon experience, education, and background. A full benefits package is provided, including health and dental benefits, vacation, sick, personal days, holidays, floating holidays, and a pension plan.
