Position Title: Library Associate, Programs and Outreach, Hillside Public Library

  • Provides excellent customer service for all
  • Develop, promote, and implement engaging programs and services for adults that meet library goals and interests of the local community
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders, through outreach, to promote library services, activities, and goals of the Library
  • Coordinate promotion through various print and digital formats, including social media, of library programs and services in collaboration with all Library Departments
  • Coordinate and oversee adult volunteers
  • Reference and readers’ advisory
  • Participates in the training of the public and staff in the effective use of library resources and emerging technologies in a variety settings, including one-on-one, small groups, and via print
  • Oversees specific library collections and updates holdings by removing obsolete materials and recommending new titles and equipment
  • Keeps informed of current trends, technology, and developments affecting library services through professional reading, continuing education opportunities, and participation in professional organizations. Attends workshops, conferences, and training as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.

Please note that this position is subject to the NJ First Act, requiring public employees to establish residency in the State of New Jersey within 1 year of appointment. See N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70). Hillside Public Library is a NJ Civil Service and Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).

Reading materials and providing verbal assistance to library users in English; manual dexterity to handle books, software, and a variety of other media formats; intermittent sitting, standing, and walking; occasional bending, reaching, and stooping; lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 lbs.; pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 100 lbs.; distinguishing sounds at various frequencies and volumes; distance vision sufficient to distinguish people or objects under a variety of light conditions; vision sufficient to view computer screens and spine labels under a variety of light conditions.

Salary/Schedule

  • This position is ranked at the position of Library Associate by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission. 
  • $43,685; generous benefits package includes Health/Dental benefits, enrollment in State Pension, paid holidays, vacation, personal days, and sick leave.
  • The schedule for this position is 35 hours per week, including days, evenings and weekends.
