Position Title: Digital Literacy Coordinator, South Brunswick Public Library (PT through July 2025, grant funded)

Part time temporary, 12 hours per week

The South Brunswick Library, located halfway between the metropolitan hubs of NYC and Philadelphia, is home to a diverse, growing community that values all the services the Library provides. Our staff is dedicated to providing excellent customer service through innovative programming, community engagement and outreach, and our Mobile Branch.

Our Library is embarking on an $11 million construction project to expand and repurpose our existing building. We are excited to bring new team members aboard as we build our next chapter at the South Brunswick Public Library. Renovations will include a new auditorium, state-of-the art meeting room, an expanded Teen Room, group study rooms, an instruction lab and more.

The South Brunswick Public Library is seeking a part-time Digital Literacy Instructor with excellent technology, training, and customer service skills. The position will help coordinate services and assist patrons with digital skills in accordance with the Community Library Adult Literacy and Career Pathway program (CLALCP), which aims to expand adult literacy services in the Garden State.

Advanced computer skills are required and experience working with multilingual populations is strongly preferred.

This is a 12 hours/week position with some evening and possibly weekend hours required. The position is expected to run through July of 2025, with the possibility of continuation, contingent on funding.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Provide technology instruction one-on-one, in small groups, and in a classroom setting.
  • Supervise use of dedicated computers and hardware.
  • Set up and track client goals, providing support as needed.
  • Provide ongoing technical and subject area support and assessment
  • Maintain a schedule of technology-related appointments, classes, and programs.
  • Communicate effectively with library staff and other libraries about programs and services aligned with the program’s goals.
  • Assist patrons with career-related services for employment, including job searching.
  • Maintain reporting on grant-related digital literacy initiatives.
  • Input events on the Library’s online calendar.
  • Represent the Library at community events.

Requirements:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Experience with instruction/training.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills and ability to provide technical support.
  • High-level proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other common workplace programs.
  • Ability to creatively deliver training materials in an in-person and online setting.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support.
  • Ability to comply with record-keeping protocols.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check.

Compensation: The 2024 rate for this position is $28/hr.
