Public Libraries (AK)
 seeks an experienced
and demonstrated leader who enjoys teamwork, innovation, and programming
as its next Community Services Manager. Our libraries serve as dynamic
community centers, offering free access to books, media, public computers,
Wi-Fi, and more. The main library in Fairbanks, and our branch located in
nearby North Pole, provide welcoming spaces with study and meeting rooms,
dedicated areas for children and young adults, and programs for all ages. Our
bookmobile extends services to our senior and homebound residents and remote
communities across the Borough. The library serves over 94,000 residents in the
Fairbanks North Star Borough and strives to provide a full spectrum of
opportunities that inform, inspire, and entertain patrons of all ages.



Located
in the interior region of Alaska, Fairbanks is the second largest city and one
of the northernmost cities in the United States. Established by traders and
miners in the early 1900’s within the Tanana Valley, the areas landscape
includes rivers, low hills, mountain views, and immense boreal forests.
Fairbanks is the ideal place to experience natural beauty and vast wildlife and
is known for spectacular displays of the northern lights (Aurora Borealis),
which can be seen regularly during winter nights. Outdoor enthusiasts will find
endless opportunities for activities, such as hiking, fishing, biking, skiing,
dog sled racing, and snowmobiling. During the summer, the midnight sun brings
the chance to enjoy festivals, golfing, boating, and other activities well into
the late evening and early morning hours.



Responsibilities: Reporting
to the Library Director, the Community Services Manager manages the operations,
staffing, and services within the Community Services Division which includes
the North Pole Branch Library, Children’s Services, Young Adult Services, and
Reference and Adult Services; develops, implements, and reviews division
policies and procedures and monitors them for compliance with Borough policies
and procedures; prepares and administers annual division budgets and maintains
expenditure control; develops short- and long-term goals and objectives for the
division; evaluates results and recommends changes accordingly in order to
provide effective, efficient services to the community; and facilitates and
coordinates services and programming for the libraries. The Community Services
Manager may assume full responsibility for all library activities in the

Qualifications: Required:
Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited university/college,
with five years of recent experience as a professional librarian with emphasis
on public services, of which three years must have been at the supervisory
level. Minimum of three years of experience in the use of integrated library
systems, and demonstrated experience in library public relations for
programming, in social media applications, and in online tools. Responsible
supervisory background, including ability to manage remote and off-site service
and program delivery.



Preferred:
Experience in a public library setting, as well as with the Sirsi/Dynix
integrated library system and library information delivery technologies.
Management experience in a collective bargaining context.



Compensation: The
hiring salary range is $101,644 – $109,591 (with placement
negotiable dependent on experience and qualifications) and an excellent fringe
benefits package.
