Dowdell Library of South Amboy - Bookkeeper (Part-time)
The Dowdell Library of South Amboy is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented person whose primary responsibility will be maintaining accurate accounting records, processing invoices and payments, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial reports. This position works closely with the Library Director to ensure that financial records are completed in a timely manner and accurately reflect the library’s financial status.
Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Library Director, the bookkeeper will maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using the library’s accounting software.
- Prepare, verify, and process invoices, purchase orders, and payments.
- Reconcile monthly bank and vendor financial statements; track spending.
- Record, process and deposit revenue, grant transactions and reimbursements.
- Assist with payroll/benefit processing and related reporting as needed.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial and statistical reports.
- Maintain organized files and documentation in accordance with audit requirements.
- Assist with annual budget preparation and year-end closing.
- Communicate with the Director and vendors regarding financial matters.
- Maintain library supply inventory, including fax, copier and printer supplies.
- Assists in operations when scheduled on the public service desk.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of two years of bookkeeping experience preferred.
Requirements
- Understanding of accounting principles and financial recordkeeping.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as Quicken and Microsoft Excel.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial and personnel information.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Schedule: Applicants must be available to work Monday through Friday 10 am–3:30 pm; approximately 25 hours per week. Evening and weekend hours may be available.
Compensation: Once permanent, the employee will be eligible for one week paid vacation. Salary: $27/hour. Sick leave and pension benefits available.
