Chief Librarian, Main
Library – FT – Sussex County Library System
What is the job? The
Sussex County Library System (SCLS) seeks a key supervisor to oversee the
functions of its Main Library (ML) location. The Chief Librarian will supervise
all of the supervisors in ML’s departments, from Circulation and Youth Services
to Technical Services and Building Maintenance. Additionally, the Chief
Librarian will serve as a core member of SCLS’s Administration team, participating
in system-wide planning and leadership.
Where is the job?
ML is located in Frankford Township, NJ, just outside of the close-knit and picturesque
borough of Branchville. Just minutes from lake communities, golf, Stokes State
Forest, downhill skiing, and the Appalachian Trail, ML offers ready access to
outdoor recreation. The local shops, farmstands, fine dining, and other amenities
of the Route 15, 94, and 206 corridors are similarly right at hand.
Who is likely to be a
fit for the job? A professional librarian with 4+ years of post-MLS experience
(including but not limited to adult services, youth services, outreach and/or technical
services), with at least a year in a supervisory role like Branch Manager or
Department Head. Someone who is interested in supervising, developing, and
empowering staff, who likes to think about the ways public library service can
evolve and grow, and who wants to be part of a management team that prides
itself on always trying to get it right.

ALA-accredited MLS required; minimum four years’ professional (post-MLS)
library experience required, including one year in a supervisory role; valid
driver’s license may be required; may be required to reside in, or relocate to,
NJ in accordance with state law.
