Circulation and Interlibrary Loan Supervisor
Position Description
The Circulation/Interlibrary loan Supervisor overseas circulation and inter library loan function of the library. The Circulation Supervisor must be familiar with the policies and procedures in each functional area. The Circulation Supervisor is directly responsible to and supervised by the Library Director and serves on the Library’s Management Team with the Library Director and four others.
Primary Objectives
- Prepares circulation reports for the Director and Board of Trustees.
- Serves as a member of the MAIN Circulation committee and attends monthly meetings along with all MAIN libraries.
- May be asked to co-chair MAIN Circulation committee or serve on other MAIN committees.
- Performs responsible and varied library tasks, requiring thorough knowledge of theories, subjects and regulations. Frequently exercise independent judgment.
- Performs related work as required.
Specific Responsibilities of the Job
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to excellent customer service.
- Organizes and supervises the circulation and interlibrary loan operations including movement of material, storage of materials, maintenance of policy files, holds, etc.
- Manages Circulation division within the public library; develops objectives and procedures; delegates to staff for tasks as needed.
- Manages hiring and selection of department personnel; ensures proper training; assigns, directs and inspects the work of and supervises and evaluates assigned personnel.
- Responsible for check-in and distribution of library material for shelving or transfer; shelving of library material.
- Provides circulation assistance to patrons including checkout of library materials, issuing library cards, assessing fees and fines, and resolving problems related to library records.

This is a full-time position 35 hours per week including days, nights and Saturday hours required. Knowledge of KOHA is a plus. Strong computer skills (Microsoft Suite, Google, Canva). Ability to perform the job with or without reasonable accommodations. Able to sit, stand, bend, kneel, climb, push and pull. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree with a minimum of one to three years working with patrons in a library setting is required; highly desirable three-five years of experience working directly with patrons in a public library. A minimum of two years of supervisory experience and training staff is required.
Salary range is $47,000-$52,000 with full benefits.
If hired, the applicant must be in compliance with the residency requirements of the New Jersey First Act within one year of the date of hire and must participate in the PERS retirement system.
