SALARY: U35:
$52,989 - $83,065
SCHEDULE: This is a 35 hour per week position and includes at least one
evening per week and weekend hours in rotation. The Ewing Branch is open
Sundays through the school year and four of the County observed holidays and
candidates should be available to work some of these.

3, REference & Adult services
Mercer County
Library System seeks an innovative, self-motived and dynamic team player to
lead the Ewing Branch Reference & Adult Services Department with positive
professionalism and forward-thinking charisma. This leadership position acts on
behalf of the branch manager when the manager is unavailable, oversees
collection development, adult programming and staff supervision, while
delivering exceptional library experiences to patrons in a vibrant community
setting.
Key RESPONSIBILITIES:
Public Service
·
Provide expert reference and reader's advisory services to
library patrons
·
Guide
patrons in utilizing print and electronic resources
·
Assist with material selection and collection
development
·
Initiate and participate in outreach
events
- Plan and execute programs for adults
- Plan and implement the adult summer reading
program
- Plan, promote and implement community outreach
initiatives
- Oversee and implement branch exam proctoring services
and tax assistance program
- Participate on system-wide committees
- Compile and report monthly and annual statistics, and
an annual report of reference services and adult programs
- Develop departmental goals
- Providing one-on-one technology assistance or in-depth
assistance when needed
- Assistance at the circulation and Youth Services when
needed
- Promote programs through
the library newsletter, website, local media, and social media platforms
- Create book displays
- Produce adult publicity, creating posters, flyers, and
brochures
Collection Management
·
Develop
and maintain a schedule for selection, retention, weeding, and display of
reference and adult collections
·
Coordinate branch ordering and evaluate materials for
electronic and print resources
Leadership & Administration
• Supervise, train, and
evaluate department staff
• Develop and manage
department budget
• Prepare staff schedules,
reports, and analytical studies
·
Participate
in library-wide administrative planning and cross-departmental coordination
·
Assisting with the payroll and
weekly Cash Report
- Handles maintenance, safety and facility issues when
manager is unavailable
- Participate in the hiring of branch Reference staff
Adult Virtual Programming
- Research and schedule virtual programs according to the
library system’s rotational schedule
- Exhibits strong communication, leadership and customer
service skills
- Serve as or schedule reference staff members as
moderators for virtual programs as needed
Social Media
- Participation in system-wide social media initiatives
- Be aware of and participate in library social media
opportunities
- Contribute to and assign the library’s blog rotation
REQUIREMENTS:
- MLS/MLIS
degree from an ALA-accredited institution and a valid New Jersey
Professional Librarian's Certificate are required, with at least two-years
of professional experience. Supervisory experience is desirable.
- A
valid NJ driver’s license

Ability to use the library’s automated
system, online reference resources, various ebook and audiobook platforms, and
Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel
·
Knowledge
of online databases and digital content delivery
·
Knowledge or previous experience with Sirsi
Workflows library software and Library Aware desirable.
