Job Description:
Library Assistant –
Milltown Public Library
DEFINITION
Under direct
supervision of the Principal Library Assistant, responsible for circulation duties, providing simple
reference and basic reader’s advisory services, and performing basic assistance
on library technology.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
·
Greeting and interacting with
the public, including adults, teens, and children.
·
Collects
library fines and fees for library materials and services
·
Checking
in and out library materials using library circulation software.
·
Gathering
materials for inter-library loan.
·
Processing
new library cards.
·
Shelves library materials, does shelf-reading.
·
General
clerical functions (answering email, phone calls, etc.).
·
Assist
patrons with troubleshooting computers, scanners, printers, and other
technological devices.
·
Performs other duties/special projects as
assigned.
·
Projects a positive and professional image in
all dealings with the public
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
·
Computer
literacy includes basic knowledge and skills of Google Suite, MS Office and
Windows
·
Excellent
interpersonal and public relations skills.
·
Ability
to resolve customer computer issues
·
Ability to
operate a variety of library equipment.
·
Ability to
work well with the public and patrons of all ages and backgrounds and be
committed to public service.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Individual may need to sit or stand for extended periods. Manual
dexterity to manipulate library materials required. Ability to communicate
orally and in writing. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or
lifting as required store materials throughout the work day. Ability to do
repetitive tasks with speed and accuracy. Ability to carry, push, pull, or lift
up to 30 pounds. Push and pull fully loaded (50-100 pounds) book trucks.
Hours and
Compensation
Thirteen (13)
hours per week, with one evening per week (Monday) and every Saturday (4 hours
each) required. The candidate may be asked to cover vacation and sick shifts on
a regular basis. Salary: $15.92/hr. Sick
time and vacation accrued based on hours worked. Participation in DCRP.
