Youth Services Librarian, Young Adult Specialist

 

Position Summary

 

The Livingston Library is seeking an enthusiastic and inclusive Librarian to join our team. The ideal candidate will be dynamic, outgoing, creative, and a team player specializing in teen services.

We are looking for someone with a demonstrated passion for and experience in community engagement, be collaborative with internal and external partners, and have a history of serving teens and their families.

Directly located across from the Livingston Public High School, the Livingston Library serves an active and vibrant teen community. The ideal candidate will be able to navigate complex relationships, manage conflict, and embody the Library's mission of: Community. Compassion. Connection. Creativity.

The YA Librarian acts as a mentor, connects teens and their families to resources and opportunities that reflect their interests, manages the highest-circulating youth collection in BCCLS, and has a proven ability to successfully launch new programs and services.

Essential Duties

 

Responsibilities will include a full range of duties in the Youth Services Department with a focus on programming, collection development, and community engagement.

  • Develop, plan, schedule, organize, and implement library programs and services for teens under the direction of the Head of Youth Services
  • Provide meaningful experiences for teen volunteers, facilitates and guide the Teen Advisory Board
  • Facilitate the planning, organizing, and execution of the teen summer reading program
  • Connect and collaborate with community organizations to promote library teen services, including local outreach events
  • Select, evaluate, and maintain library materials for the Young Adult collection based on a variety of review sources and reader preferences
  • Provide readers advisory services that inspire and support teens in the development of a lifelong love of reading
  • Shares best practices and empowers all library staff to connect with and serve teens to ensure a continuum of service
  • Research new information needs and develops creative responses using innovative resources and delivery service methods
  • Create and maintain social media accounts
  • Manage the teen space, including space upkeep, equipment/supplies, maintaining adherence to library behavior policies, and creating engaging displays
  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the Library, including circulation, registration,and shelving

  • Engage in continuing education opportunities in order to develop and maintain job skills
  • Coordinate with local school librarians and teachers to deliver library instruction and educational presentations at schools

 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to execute innovative library services to teens and families, especially in regard to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Strong interpersonal, reference, and customer service skills
  • Engaging public speaking presence
  • Possess and show a demonstrated willingness and ability to work as a team player within the department, organization, and community stakeholders
  • Experience planning, presenting, and evaluating programs for teens
  • Familiarity with collection development best practices, current reading, viewing, and listening interests of teens
  • Knowledge of current technologies, electronic resources, virtual services and social media

Education and Special Requirements

 

  • A Masters of Library Science (or comparable degree from an ALA-accredited university.
  • Candidates in the process of completing a Library or Information Science program at an ALA-accredited university will be considered

Pay Rate

 

Starting salary for a degreed candidate is $62,000 Position includes medical, dental, and a generous leave package.
