Job Description:
Library Assistant (Part-Time)
The Leonia Public Library is seeking a friendly, service and detail-oriented Library Assistant to support daily evening operations, provide exceptional service to patrons of all ages, and assist with youth and adult programming. This position combines circulation responsibilities and support for library programs with an evening and Saturday schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Circulation & Patron Services
- Assist patrons with inquiries, locating materials, and navigating the ILS online catalog.
- Perform circulation tasks, including check-in, check-out, renewals, issuing cards, and updating accounts.
- Manage patron holds, interlibrary loan materials, and resolve basic account issues (fines, fees).
- Provide basic troubleshooting for library computers, copiers, and scanners.
- Shelve, shelf-read, shift, and organize materials to maintain an orderly collection.
Participate in opening/closing procedures and maintain a welcoming library environment.
- All staff are cross trained to work in all areas of the library.
Youth and Adult Programming Support
- Assist the Youth Services and Adult Librarian with preparing for programs; may include creating flyers, posters, and brochures for upcoming library programs or promotional purposes.
- Assist with marketing using Constant Contact and other outlets to promote the library on various social media platforms.
- Other duties as assigned to support library operations.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Must have at minimum a High school diploma (associate or bachelor’s degree preferred). MLS students, and recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Excellent customer service skills (library, retail, or education services)
- Strong computer literacy, including Google Suite, MS Office, Canva, and ability to learn new software systems (experience with BCCLS LEAP is a plus).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proactive, public-service mindset.
- Ability to regularly bend, lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Bilingual Korean is highly desirable.
Schedule/Salary
- This is a 20 hour per week part-time position with a regular schedule of Monday and Wednesday evenings 3p - 8p, Friday 12p - 5p, and Saturdays 12p - 5p.
- Compensation is hourly, ranging from $15.49 - $18.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.

This position requires participation in the Defined Contribution Retirement Program pension system. The first 90 days of employment are provisional.
