New Jersey Academic Librarians are hosting a virtual presentation by Tess Wilson from the Library Freedom Project.

Intellectual freedom and privacy are core values of the information professions and basic rights in our democratic society that are being challenged at an unprecedented level in libraries of all kinds across the country. Join us for a presentation from Library Freedom Project to gain strategies for standing up for our values during crisis conditions and organizing with your fellow library workers. Using LFP's harm reduction approach, Tess Wilson will also share practical ways to teach our communities about online privacy, the risks involved with sharing personal data, how to develop and teach a security mindset, and more.

Tess Wilson is a librarian and educator with a focus on digital literacy and information democracy. She is the Membership and Outreach Director of Library Freedom Project and her work was most recently featured in ACRL’s Data Literacy Cookbook. Beyond her library work she is a teaching artist, environmental educator, and zine enthusiast.

Register for this virtual presentation, to be held from 10-11AM on Friday, May 1st. (If you are participating in May Day 2026 protest actions, I hope you will still consider attending this presentation as aligned with your commitment to organize and defend democracy.)
