Peter Bromberg
Recently appointed the Director of the Somerset County Library System, Peter has long been at the vanguard of library advocacy on local, state, and national levels. In his role as Associate Director at EveryLibrary, he helped organize and support grassroots “right to read” groups fighting censorship and supporting the freedom to read in schools, public libraries, and statehouses across the country. As Executive Director of the Salt Lake City Library, Peter was honored with a Distinguished Service Award from the American Society for Public Administrators for his leadership in securing a historic 24% budget increase, eliminating many inequitable barriers to service, and addressing long-neglected issues with library facilities, as well as long overdue increases to staff compensation and benefits. In 2019, Peter received the Utah Library Association Legislative Award for Excellence in Political Affairs for his work building a coalition and marshaling public support to successfully fight the cancellation of research databases in school libraries following unsubstantiated claims that they contained inappropriate materials. As co-founder of Let Utah Read and Co-Chair of the Utah Library Association Advocacy team, he helped Utahns to organize and speak out against book banning locally and statewide. He was recognized for this work by the ACLU with their Torch of Freedom award in 2023 for "advancing the cause of civil rights and civil liberties", and recognized again by the League of Women Voters with their “Making Democracy Work” award in 2025.
