Archivist - Rahway Public Library

Job Hotline,

Job Description:

The Rahway Public Library is the main depository for Rahway local history.  Our facility houses a wealth of historical documents, microfilm, maps, yearbooks, and city directories as well as a number of unique artifacts.  We also maintain the Carolyn Wells collection, an archive of rare, first edition mystery books written by Ms. Wells who once called Rahway home.  Our history room has served as the primary resource for multiple books, several articles, and other historical publications.

The Rahway Public Library is seeking a temporary archivist to help document, index, and preserve our holdings.  By working close with the city's long time historian, you will have the opportunity to both safeguard and make accessible this unique and exciting collection.  We are looking for someone who has experience handling and protecting fragile materials, documenting and indexing archival collections for discovery, sharing such collections through curated exhibits, and assisting our patrons with local history inquiries.

The position will be for 19 hours / week for a period of 90 days.  Pay will be $36.17 / hour.  While there will be a separate interview process, we are especially interested in candidates who may wish to stay on past the initial 90 days for four hours per week to help maintain this collection long term.  Interested candidates should send a cover letter and resume to director Ian Sloat - info@rahwaylibrary.org.  Application deadline is Monday, September 22
