Essential Functions of the Job:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing delivery services throughout the county while demonstrating excellent customer service that reflects SCLSNJ’s core values; supporting library operations through other assigned duties, including non-driving tasks such as office support, mailroom, clerical duties, and moving furniture; and performing other library-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are necessary to safely operate library vehicles, including a cargo van and/or box truck, while remaining in compliance with all Federal, state, and local laws; Comfortable using a smartphone and following GPS routing. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with colleagues and supervisors is required. Employees must reside in the State of New Jersey within one year of employment, unless otherwise exempted by law.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid NJ Driver’s License. Background check required.

Physical Demands:

This position requires the physical stamina and upper body strength to lift crates, boxes, packages, and move furniture or other objects, including loading and unloading delivery vehicles along with the ability to sit for extended periods and perform tasks involving bending, twisting, squatting, and climbing in and out of cargo vans and other library vehicles. The employee must be able to follow instructions, complete required training, and work independently or as part of a team. The role requires manual dexterity to handle mail, books, and media, as well as frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and stooping. Employees must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs. and push or pull objects up to 200 lbs. Vision sufficient to view computer screens, labels, and distinguish people or objects under varying light conditions is required, along with the ability to distinguish sounds at different frequencies and volumes. The role also requires performing repetitive motions for extended periods.

Work Conditions & Schedule:

This position involves work in temperature-controlled environments and frequent exposure to varying outdoor weather conditions for up to 5 hours per day. Work hours are generally Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm, but may vary on occasion, to include evenings, weekends, and holidays for special assignments. Regular and predictable attendance is expected. Not a remote, temporary, or seasonal position. Employees will also be expected to cover when the other drivers are on vacation or leave sick.
