The Verona Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic and creative librarian to join our team. The successful candidate should be reliable, enjoy working with the public, and have exemplary interpersonal communication skills
The Opportunity
This part-time position (up to 24 hours/week) is a fantastic opportunity for a librarian who loves the dynamic, people-centered heart of public library work. You will provide reference and readers' advisory services, design and lead engaging adult programs, and build relationships with the diverse community we proudly serve. Evening and weekend availability are required.
What You'll Do
• Welcome adult patrons and deliver outstanding, personalized reference and readers’ advisory service.
• Create and lead innovative programs, from book clubs and author events to workshops on technology, health, finances, career skills, and more.
• Partner with local organizations to extend the library's reach and relevance in the community.
• Help patrons navigate digital tools, library databases, e-books, and online resources.
• Contribute to collection development and create eye-catching library displays.
• Share library news, program announcements, and community highlights across social media platforms to engage patrons and grow the library’s presence online.
• Be a visible, enthusiastic ambassador for the library at community events and outreach activities.
What We're Looking For
Required
• MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program, or currently enrolled with at least one year completed.
• Proven experience planning and running programs or events.
• Excellent communication skills and a warm, welcoming approach to public service.
• Comfort with library technology, databases, and digital services.
• Knowledge of and fluency with social media platforms for community engagement and library promotion.
• Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner.
Bonus Points For
• Completed MLS/MLIS degree.
• At least one year of library experience, ideally in a public library.
• Experience with readers' advisory tools (NoveList, etc.).
• Comfort with Canva and WordPress.
• Experience serving seniors, job seekers, or English language learners.
