Youth Services Manager
Full-Time | 35 Hours/Week | $70,000–$82,500
About the Position
Plainsboro Public Library seeks an innovative and dynamic Youth Services Manager to lead our children's, tween, and teen services department. This leadership position oversees collection development, programming, and staff supervision while delivering exceptional library experiences for young patrons and their families in our vibrant, multicultural community.
Key Responsibilities
Public Service
• Provide expert reference and reader's advisory services to children, tweens, teens, and caregivers
• Guide patrons in utilizing print and electronic resources
• Assist with material selection based on age, interest, and reading capabilities
Programming
• Plan, coordinate, and execute engaging programs including summer reading clubs, special events, outreach to local schools, and STEAM activities in our Science Center
• Promote programs through library newsletter, website, local media, and social media platforms
Collection Management
• Develop and maintain policies for selection, retention, weeding, and display of youth collections
• Coordinate ordering and evaluate materials for children's, tween, and teen collections
Leadership & Administration
• Supervise, train, and evaluate department staff
• Develop and manage department budget
• Prepare staff schedules, reports, and analytical studies
• Participate in library-wide administrative planning and cross-departmental coordination
Required Qualifications
• Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program
• New Jersey Professional Librarian Certificate
• Public library experience
• Demonstrated proficiency with library technology and social media
Preferred Qualifications
• Supervisory experience
• Experience with youth programming and collection development
• Knowledge of current trends in youth library services

Schedule
This is a 35 hour per week position requiring flexibility to work weekday, evening, and weekend shifts as needed.
