Youth Services Librarian - Chester Library

Position Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Youth Services Librarian to join our team. This full-time position is ideal for a self-starter who is reliable, creative, and excited to try new things in order to engage children, teens, and their families. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and delivering innovative programs and services that foster a love of reading, learning, and community connection.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, and implement engaging programs for children, teens, and families, including storytimes, workshops, and special events
- Provide reference and readers’ advisory services tailored to youth and caregivers
- Build and maintain a vibrant, diverse, and relevant youth collection
- Collaborate with schools, community organizations, and local partners
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all young library users
- Promote library services through outreach, displays, and digital platforms
- Assist with general library operations, including circulation and desk coverage
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program (or currently enrolled with expected completion date)
- Experience working with children and/or teens in a library, educational, or community setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Creativity, flexibility, and a willingness to experiment with new ideas and approaches
- Reliable, organized, and proactive work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with current trends in youth services, literacy, and programming
- Experience with outreach and community engagement

Working Conditions:
- The Youth Services Librarian typically works within a library setting, with regular interaction with children, teenagers, and their families.
- Occasional local travel to off-site meetings or community outreach events.
- Some evening and weekend work will be required to accommodate program schedules and library hours.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move library materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
