Section Elections
Section Elections Timeline
It's a good idea to start thinking about this process pretty early on. Here's a breakdown of the timeline (give or take a day for weekends or holidays).
- February 1: notices go out to section leaders to start asking members to fill leadership roles for the following year
- March 1: section leaders submit their slate to the Nominations and Elections Committee
- Third week of March: ballots are distributed to section members and voting begins
- April 1: voting closes
- Mid April: section leaders are notified of the election results
- July 1: new leadership takes over
Preparing for Elections
- Review your Section's bylaws to determine what positions are open. (This is important: If you do not have bylaws or know where your bylaws are, please contact office@njla.org)
- Communicate position descriptions/term limits to your Section membership.
- Identify members of your Section who would be interested, able, and willing to run for a seat on your Section's Exec Board.
- You may seek nominations from Section membership, or you may (and will likely need to) reach out to individual members for their permission to be added to a slate.
- You must identify and submit a slate even if some or all positions are uncontested!
The office or the Nominations and Elections committee will be in touch with section leaders throughout the process. For questions, e-mail elections@njla.org.
