Part Time Library Associate, Youth Services, Lawrence Headquarters Branch

This 19-hour per week position requires Saturdays and two evenings per week. Other hours are to be scheduled. Please note, the Lawrence HQ Branch is open Sundays throughout the school years, and four of the County-observed holidays and applicants must be available to work on Sundays if necessary, and some of those holidays. 

Requirements: Applicant must have a Bachelor's Degree. We are seeking an energetic student enrolled in an MLS/MLIS program with a passion for working with young people.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, flexible, and have excellent customer service skills. The youth services associate will contribute, along with the rest of the Youth Services staff, to a vibrant and well-rounded Youth Services Department. A strong candidate will have robust communication and management skills and a willingness to work as part of a team. Experience using technology is required. 

 Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Answering reference questions and providing readers’ advisory

  • Planning and implementing a variety of programs for children of various ages, including story time and craft programs

  • Accessing databases and other reference materials and showing patrons how to do so

  • Participating in collection development

  • Assisting with outreach events as needed

  • Creating bulletin boards and displays

  • Contributing to library social media campaigns


This position requires Mercer County residency. This title is covered under AFSCME local 3566. The current salary range range for this position is: U67: $19.96 - $26.32 p/hr.  Applications will be accepted until a candidate is found; only those candidates selected for interview will be contacted.
