Adult Services Library Intern -Hasbrouck Heights Public Library
Job Description:
The Free Public Library of Hasbrouck Heights is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, and service-driven graduate library student to join our team. This position offers hands-on experience across multiple areas of public library service, including circulation, programming, outreach, and collection support. The Library Intern reports to the Head of Adult Services and will play an integral role in our vibrant, community-focused public library.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide reference assistance to patrons by locating information and materials using appropriate technologies and resources.
- Support daily circulation operations and public service activities.
- Assist with community outreach initiatives and programs that promote library services.
- Contribute to collection development, cataloging, and processing of materials.
- Deliver excellent customer service in person, by phone, and via email.
- Collaborate with the social media team to create and promote marketing and publicity materials.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited American Library Association (ALA) Master of Library Science (MLS/MLIS) program.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, social media platforms, and Canva.
- Ability to multitask, maintain confidentiality and professionalism, and work independently.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and effectively serve the public.
- Demonstrated commitment to community service.

Schedule: Work hours are 20 hrs/week. Monday-Friday and one Saturday a month.
Salary: $17 per hour, commensurate with experience
