Full-Time Children's Librarian - William E. Dermody Free Public Library of Carlstadt

Job Description:

The William E. Dermody Free Public Library of Carlstadt, NJ is seeking a
creative and energetic Children’s Librarian to inspire our next generation of
readers. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Select
      and maintain Children’s and Young Adult materials

• Present
      weekly story time programs for toddler and preschool children and their
      caregivers

• Plan
      and present enrichment programs for children and teens

• Provide
      outreach to the local community, including schools and summer camp

• Provide
      reference and readers’ advisory services for all ages

• Design
      summer reading program for children and teens

• Promote
      library services via marketing materials such as reading lists, flyers,
      and brochures

• Assist
      patrons with the use of library technology

• Assist
      with cataloging and circulation of juvenile materials

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s
      Degree in Information and Library Studies from an ALA-accredited master’s
      program

• New
      Jersey State Professional Librarian Certificate

• Currently
      enrolled MLS students will be considered

• Demonstrated
      knowledge of Children’s and Young Adult literature and child and
      adolescent development

• Proficiency
      with technology, including internet, electronic databases and Microsoft
      Excel

• Outstanding
      customer service, organizational and teamwork skills

• Excellent
      verbal, written, telephone, and public speaking skills

• Public
      library experience and proficiency with Polaris/LEAP strongly desired

• Ability
      to perform light lifting, bending, and reaching

• 35-hour
      work week

• Minimum
      of one night per week and one Saturday per month required

• New
      Jersey residency required within one year of date of hire

• Successful
      completion of background check required prior to appointment

      in NJ Public Employee Retirement System (PERS)

• For
      candidates in possession of New Jersey State Professional Librarian
      Certificate, salary will meet NJLA 2026 Minimum Starting Salary
