Washington Public Library is seeking a
visionary leader to ensure our library flourishes. Washington is a small town
in Warren County with an estimated population of 7,418 people. For over
100 years the library has been functioning as a community hub with accessible
services and informational resources contributing to the betterment of all who
enter our doors. We offer technology and programming for all ages that
encourages love of reading, gaining knowledge and skills along with cultural
enrichment. Located near the center of town, the Washington Public Library is
the heart of our community, supporting life-long learning, literacy and
discovery.
Description of Duties:
Must work effectively with the Board of
Trustees, municipal officials, library patrons, community organizations, school
groups and the general public. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1.
Manages and
directs the operations of a free public library, including the development of
mechanized systems and ensuring the maintenance of the library facility.
2.
Oversees the
development and maintenance of library’s collection and all programming.
3.
Recruits and
assigns new employees, supervising and evaluating employee performance.
4.
Recommends library
policies and procedures and implements them upon Board approval.
5.
Assists in the
development of the library budget, controls library expenditures, and pursues
additional sources of funding.
6.
Prepares and
oversees the preparation of accurate and informative narrative and statistical
reports.
7.
Oversees the
establishment and maintenance of essential records and files.
Education/Certification/Experience/ Requirements: A Master's degree in Library or Information Science in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey college Master's program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College. NJ Professional Librarian certificate not required.
Civil Service position requiring 5 years of library experience, with 2 years in supervisory capacity.
In accordance with the New Jersey First Act (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7), employees must establish and maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey unless exempted by law.
